There’s camping, and then there’s Cybertruck-style camping.
A clever new accessory, the ‘Space Camper’, has been unveiled for the Cybertruck, which turns the much-hyped electric pickup truck into a camper. The device, priced at £19,500 ($24,000), slots neatly into the back of the vehicle. When activated, it extends outwards and upwards, creating enough space for two people to sleep in a built-in bed. Although it is an enclosed camping space, the accessory can also be opened up on one side to allow drivers to sleep under the stars in “stargazing mode”, if they so choose.
According to the company behind the model, Cybertruck drivers will be able to “get anywhere and camp in minutes” with their “wedge-style” Space Camper.
A number of clever accessories can also be purchased and added to the model, including a movie projector, a shower and a fully functional kitchen.
A new accessory, the ‘Space Camper’, has been unveiled for the Tesla Cybertruck, turning Elon Musk’s much-hyped electric pickup truck into a mobile home.
The basic Space Camper is priced at £19,500 ($24,000), but a variety of clever accessories can be added to the product.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk first unveiled the Cybertruck in November 2019, and two of the vehicle’s “bulletproof” windows were famously displayed during the launch event.
The truck’s body is based on a 1976 Lotus Esprit sports car that Musk owned in 2013, and the rest of the design is inspired by vehicles from Blade Runner, Mad Max, Back to the Future and Alien.

According to the company behind the model, Cybertruck drivers will be able to “get anywhere and set up camp in minutes” with their Space Camper in tow.
A movie projector can be installed in the caravan.
However, mass production of the vehicle is not expected to begin until 2024.
To install the Space Camper on the electric pickup truck, Cybertruck owners will bring their vehicle to Space Campers headquarters in San Luis Obispo, California, where they will secure it to the back of the truck with a series of small clamps.
Once it’s in place, drivers are ready to camp. How does it work? Once the driver has unlocked the Space Camper’s roof and “flipped a switch,” the camper will rise in “30 seconds or less,” with awning-style poles extending outward and supporting the roof.
Next, they unroll the Space Camper tent wall and attach it to the back door of the van. Once zipped up, it functions fully as a tent, with 8 feet (2.4 m) of standing room at its highest point and 6 feet (2 m) at its lowest point.
Inside there is a bed with a four-inch memory foam mattress, which can sleep two people. In “stargazing” mode, the space between the awnings opens up, so campers can sleep outdoors.
When removed from the Cybertruck, the bed doubles as a dining table or even a projection screen for outdoor movies.
With built-in storage benches and tables, the caravan can be converted into a workspace.
At the end of the bed, benches and folding tables are stored for eating or catching up on work.
Both the interior and exterior are equipped with touch-activated lights, and to power your electronic devices, there are several outlets and USB ports.
Meanwhile, loose items can be stored in a series of storage nooks built into the side of the caravan.
Complementary kitchen accessories include a sink with instant hot water from portable fresh water tanks, an induction cooktop and a portable electric refrigerator.
“With optimal wall storage, you won’t have trouble finding a place for your pots, pans, cups, plates and spices,” says Space Campers.
The shower attachment, meanwhile, is mounted on the outside of the caravan and uses hot water from portable freshwater tanks. A portable toilet can be fitted to the outside shower, Space Campers reveals.
The bed can be used as a projection screen for outdoor movies.

Campers will be based at Space Campers headquarters in San Luis Obispo, California.
Touch-activated lights are installed indoors and outdoors.
A roof rack system can also be installed on the motorhome roof to accommodate solar panels or bicycles.

Space Campers are available in stainless steel or matte black, though the company notes that accessories can be customized to the buyer’s specifications.
The base model of the trailer weighs 213 kilograms (470 pounds) and is powered entirely by the Cybertruck’s existing battery pack.
Space Campers told MailOnline Travel that it is currently building a full-scale prototype of the camper van based on the latest information available on the Cybertruck. The company will need to tweak it slightly when Tesla confirms the van’s final specifications.
He adds that once production is underway, it will take about two weeks to build each Space Camper.
The Space Camper isn’t the only accessory that aims to give the Cybertruck a camping feel. In 2021, different companies introduced similar accessories known as the and.
Elon Musk seems to approve of the latter, tweeting that it was “cool.”
