More than 20 years after joining him onstage, Britney Spears is showing her support for Michael Jackson‘s accusers.
After the Grammy Award winner, 42, promoted ex Wade Robson’s From Trauma to Triumph podcast in a since-deleted Instagram post, Jackson fans slammed her as ‘disrespectful’ for platforming his claims against the late King of Pop.
‘I probably don’t talk to him as much but I wanted to share this because it genuinely touched my heart to see this older man speak on something that’s incredibly sensitive to my heart!!!’ wrote Spears in part, according to TMZ.
She had an affair with her dancer Robson, 41, when she dated Justin Timberlake.
‘There is a complete understanding of what he is saying and I think I’m gonna cry for the rest of my life now!!!’ added Spears. ‘God bless you!!!’
Spears was met with vitriol on social media from those defending Jackson after Robson and podcast co-host James Safechuck accused him of sexually abusing them as children.
‘Every tongue that rises against Michael Jackson shall fall, so Britney just signed her death sentence for millions- I mean, billions of people,’ one person wrote. ‘She’s dead to me.’
Another posted, ‘Honestly this was most disrespectful thing you could do about Michael Jackson wo you called your friend Britney! Not cool not cool!’
‘The way that Michael Jackson did nothing but everything good for everyone, only to be rewarded with lies and betrayal, is always mind boggling,’ another wrote. ‘Shame on everyone whom Michael helped in their own lives and careers, including that b***h Britney.’
Since 2013, Robson and Safechuck, 46, have alleged that Jackson sexually abused them when they were children, attempting numerous times to bring their case to court over the years.
Robson claimed that the Thriller artist had abused him at his Neverland Ranch when he was between the ages of seven and 14.
They previously defended Jackson against allegations in 1993, and Robson came to his defense again in 2005.
Following his and Safechuck’s appearance in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland, a court approved Robson’s lawsuit against Jackson’s MJJ Productions, Inc. last year.
The HBO documentary divided fans as many held Jackson accountable, while others argued it wasn’t fair that the allegations only surfaced after his death.
Jackson died at age 50 in 2009 from cardiac arrest caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose.
Spears has long cited Jackson as an inspiration, even paying tribute to him during her Las Vegas residency Britney: Piece of Me.
She joined him for a performance of ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ during his 30th Anniversary Celebration: The Solo Years concert at Madison Square Garden in 2001.
The next year, Spears and Jackson presented Best Pop Video together at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Following Jackson’s death, Spears received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
