‘I don’t care about women’s sports’: Eloп Musk and JK Rowling slam Olympics organisers over fight between ‘biological male’ boxer Imaпe Khelif
The controversial boxing match between Imaпe Khelif and Apпla Cariпi has sparked a massive backlash on social media with top celebrities such as Eloп Musk and Martiпa Navratilova criticising the organisers of the Paris Olympics. Algerian Khelif, who had failed a weight test last year, was competing in her second Olympics and fought Italy’s Cariçi in the women’s 66kg round 16. But Cariçi abandoned the fight after just 46 seconds after receiving a heavy blow to her back.
Caripi later fell to his knees in the middle of the platform and burst into tears after the defeat.
Since then, he has received a lot of support from all over the world.
“I don’t like women’s sports,” wrote one X user named Riley Gayes, which was retweeted by Musk saying: “Absolutely.”
Legendary Martia Navratilova and Harry Potter author JK Rowling blamed Cariпi for the IOC’s defeat.
“Watch this (full thread), explaining why they are okay with a map beating a woman in public for their own gain. This is not sport. From the cheating bully who overpowered them to the organisers who allowed this to happen, this is me reveling in their power over women,” Rowling tweeted.
“Exactly. This is all the responsibility of the IOC and the powers that make the rules. It is a farce and a mockery of all Olympic sports,” Navratilova, an 18-time Grand Slam winner, wrote in Rowling’s tweet.
It is worth noting that Khelif and Lip Yu-tiig of Taiwan are two female boxers who were disqualified from the 2023 world championships for failing gender eligibility tests, but have managed to comply with all IOC rules to fight at the Olympics.
Both were left out of the medal race at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
“All athletes participating in the boxing tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games comply with the eligibility and participation rules of the competition, as well as with all applicable medical regulations,” the International Olympic Committee said in a statement.
