The San Francisco 49ers are looking to lock up their best receiving talent ahead of next season and, to that effect, have signed restricted free-agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings to a two-year contract.
Jennings, who has solidified himself as the team’s third-best receiving option over the past few seasons, will stay put until after the 2025 NFL season.
The pass-catcher did not sign his restricted free-agent tender, which would have counted as a one-year extension, and has now secured a two-year deal with the reigning NFC champions.
Jennings’ agents, Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal is worth up to $15.4 million, with $10.5 million.
The player hadn’t been participating in organized team activities because he wasn’t technically under contract, but he was working on a deal with the team.
San Francisco placed the second-round tender on Jennings in March, which left him free to shop around for a new deal but would leave them with the right to match any outside offer or receive a second-round pick from another team whose offer they did not match.
Jennings never signed the tender so he didn’t fall in for OTAs. However, he was on the field while the team to spoke to the media on Wednesday.
Jauan Down, Two To Go For The San Francisco 49ers
While the San Francisco 49ers have locked down a key receiver, they have more important business to undertake as their other receivers, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, remain priorities.
Locking Jennings in does offer them some protection in case they can’t extend both stars, but they would like to keep their receiver room the same, at least for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Aiyuk is locked in negotiations with the team and is said to want a sum matching what Amon-Ra St. Brown got from the Detroit Lions. He hasn’t joined the Niners for OTAs.
