You don’t often see musical feuds outside of the rap game — at least not feuds that play out lyrically — but it looks like one may be brewing in the country music world.
There was a time when Florida Georgia Line was a headlining act. The duo — Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard — were big-time stars. But they last performed together in 2022, and a new song by Kelley has headlines popping up everywhere and social media talking.
All seem convinced that he aimed the lyrics of his new song, “Kiss My Boots,” which was released on Wednesday, at Hubbard.
“Want the world to know that you did me wrong,” the song goes. “I don’t know how you act sweet, after how you did me, here’s a middle finger to you through a song.”
The video reportedly shows Kelley hunting a snake, and has a shot to close it all of a close up of his belt and the word “Florida.” He was, of course, the Florida half of Florida Georgia Line.
“It was healing to write. I feel released now. Everyone processes things differently. I went inward,” he said, according to PEOPLE. “I went to work and stayed busy. I’m proud of myself for doing it that way. It was worth it. Now I have a song that helped me through a tough time. Hopefully, ‘Kiss My Boots’ can help a lot of people. Give them some confidence and help them get their power back.”
“So as hard as it was in those moments to take the high road, I took her advice and I sat back and ate my popcorn,” he wrote.
He said it all came out in the song.
“Now it’s time for y’all to get your popcorn,” he wrote.
PEOPLE said “Kiss My Boots” comes from Kelley’s upcoming album, “Tennessee Truth.”
If Kelley is going at Hubbard, at least for now, Hubbard does not seem willing to go back at him.
He told Holler he is happy for Kelley.
“And I hope he’s happy and he’s doing his thing and I’m doing my thing,” he said. “I wish him the best, and yeah, as far as that’s concerned that’s about all I have to say about it.”
