So…where did these rumors stem from? Us Weekly reports that it seems as though fans took a mashup of songs Taylor performed onstage in Melbourne, leaned way into the lyrics, and kinda ran with it.

The songs in question? “Getaway Car,” “August,” and “The Other Side of the Door”—all of which have some pretty specific lyrics that promote this theory. On “Getaway Car,” Taylor sings, “but with three of us, honey, it’s a sideshow;” on “The Other Side of the Door,” she sings, “and I broke down crying, was she worth this mess;” and on “August,” she sings, “’cause you were never mine.”

Buuut other than people reading into these lyrics, there’s literally no evidence of infidelity in Joe and Taylor’s relationship.

In fact, at the time of their breakup, People reported that “differences in their personalities” lead to their split, with a source saying, “They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during Reputation.

Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.

Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public. The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”

All that said, it definitely seems like Taylor’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, is influenced by her breakup with Joe…and there’s a LOT of evidence to support that—just saying:
