Jerry Bruckheimer reveals plans to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has recently shared future plans for the popular franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. However, the updates might not be pleasing for fans looking forward to Johnny Depp’s return as Jack Sparrow. The actor has embodied the character since the 2003 film and was last seen in his iconic role in the fifth installment of the franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Jerry Bruckheimer Casts Doubts on Johnny Depp’s Return as Jack Sparrow
In a recent conversation with ComicBook.com, producer Jerry Bruckheimer discussed the potential future of some of his hit franchises, including Top Gun and Pirates of the Caribbean.
He highlighted the intricate and unpredictable nature of working on movies where the involvement of iconic actors significantly influences the project.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Referring to Tom Cruise, who is set to star in a third installment of Top Gun amidst his busy schedule, he said, “Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun.”
However, he further suggested that they do not need to follow the same approach for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as he revealed the plans for a reboot. “But we’re gonna reboot Pirates,” he said before adding, “So that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of The Caribbean film series
While the prospect of reviving the franchise with a fresh start seems promising, the statement made by the film producer also implies that along with the cast of the film, Johnny Depp might also not reprise his role as the protagonist of the film series, Jack Sparrow, something that fans have eagerly awaited for years.
Johnny Depp on Returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise
Johnny Depp was dropped from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise days after his ex-wife Amber Heard wrote an op-ed alluding to her abuse claims in December 2018.
The actor was reportedly set to star in a sixth installment of the franchise before the studio cut ties with him amid the allegations made by Heard.

During the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial, Heard’s attorney raised the issue of the actor’s commitment not to participate in “Pirates 6″ if the opportunity arose.
“The fact is, Mr. Depp if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film? Correct?” Ben Rottenborn asked.
Depp answered, “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.” He also stated that the studio “was trying to cut ties to be safe” amid the #MeToo movement. However, recent reports have suggested that the studio is interested in getting Depp back in the franchise.
