Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is already preparing for his post-playing career in television – with the football player getting set for hosting duties on a game show re-boot.

Kelce is set to host the resurrection of the show ‘Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?’ – but it appears the format will change ever so slightly.

According to US Weekly, the 34-year-old will be tabbed as the host of the show being tentatively titled ‘Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?’

Kelce will be taking over the role formerly held by comedian Jeff Foxworthy when the show had its initial run on FOX from 2007 to 2009.

This won’t be the first time that the show will be re-booted, as Foxworthy returned to host a revival version of the series in 2015.

In 2019, the show switched networks to Nickelodeon where it ran for one season while hosted by WWE superstar John Cena.

Kelce’s re-boot will be aired on the paid streaming service Amazon Prime Video.

The new format will feature contestants facing off against a group of three celebrities, rather than the previous panel of children in grade school.

US Weely says that Kelce is set to begin rehearsal and media coaching in the following weeks – with production starting in the summer.

Initial reports from Deadline back in March indicated that while Kelce had been picked, his potential involvement in the project wasn’t a done deal – and that he might lack the availability to host the show.

But US Weekly’s reporting seems to indicate that isn’t the case.

It may be a surprise to some that Kelce has been tabbed for hosting duties, but US says the deal to do this was done ‘long before Travis’ profile was raised, and now he has to honor the contract.

‘[They’ll shoot] several test episodes and really fine-tune the show and Kelce so this doesn’t embarrass him.’

This, of course, won’t be Kelce’s first exposure to the world of television – having previously been subject of a dating show, ‘Catching Kelce’, and also hosting Saturday Night Live last year.

Since then, Kelce’s life has been a whirlwind. His ‘New Heights’ podcast with brother Jason has become a smash hit and was even nominated for two Webby Awards.

On the field, he won back-to-back Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs as they knocked off the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

And of course, awaiting him on the field was his now-girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

The couple became the story surrounding the NFL last season and they still have managed to capture the spotlight in the offseason.

Travis and Taylor have remained close – going to various exotic locales like Singapore and The Bahamas – as they take some down time away from their busy jobs.
