Stephen Curry

The Warriors will be without their star player for some time.

Stephen Curry injured his ankle during Thursday’s loss to the Bulls and did not return to the game. He finished the contest with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Curry has battled injuries throughout his career, having not exceeded 69 games in a season since 2016-17. He has averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 2023-24 while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from 3.

The Warriors, who sit 10th in the Western Conference at 34-30, are headed into a pivotal stretch of the season. Missing their star player could be a huge blow to the team’s playoff hopes.

Here’s the latest on Curry’s injury.

Stephen Curry to be reevaluated Tuesday after MRI shows ankle sprain - Yahoo Sports

On March 12, the Warriors announced that Curry “has been cleared to resume on-court workouts in the Bay Area and is expected to join the team for practice in Los Angeles on Friday.” Golden State is scheduled to face the Lakers on Saturday.

An MRI on Curry’s ankle returned clean. “The MRI indicated no structural damage to the joint and confirmed the injury as a sprained ankle,” the Warriors’ release stated.

Chris Paul will be the likely point guard for the Warriors while Curry is out. In 40 games this season, Paul has averaged 9.0 points, 7.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds.

Draymond Green said the team is confident in Paul if he should become the starter for a prolonged period.

“We know he is more than capable. He’s Chris Paul,” Green said, per ESPN. “It’s been incredible having C here, but then you have Steph going down — no one is Steph Curry in the NBA. But knowing you are going into the game with a guy who can win you game after game after game, it definitely gives you confidence going in knowing that you are more than capable to win games.”
