Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect and boyfriend of gymnast Olivia Dunne, Paul Skenes, threw 102mph fastballs in a Spring Training game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Skenes is one of Major League Baseball’s top prospects and competing to be part of the Pirates Opening Day rotation.

He’s never appeared in an MLB game to date. Yet, Skenes made it as far as the Pirates’ Double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve, last season.

Skenes was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft after a stellar career at LSU, where he met Dunne. On Thursday, he pitched against the Orioles pair of former top-overall picks, Jackson Holliday and Adley Rutschman.

Skenes got out both the first overall pick in 2019, Rutschman, with a fly out, and who preceded him as the top overall pick, Holliday, with a ground out.

Dunne and Skenes had long tried to keep their romance under wraps, but confirmed their relationship on social media last summer.

Skenes signed a $9.2million bonus when joining the Pirates to go along with Dunne being the highest-earning female collegiate athlete due to NIL deals.

Skenes only made his professional debut last August after being used heavily by LSU during its spring-to-early-summer season.

The Pirates have won one playoff series, a 2013 Wild Card tilt, since their 1979 championship with Willie Stargell leading the way.

If Skenes lives up to his potential, he could help improve fortunes in the Steel City.

Skenes No 3 overall baseball prospect ranking by MLB.com is only behind Holliday and Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio.

Skenes is two spots ahead of Rangers outfielder Evan Carter, who was called up to the big leagues late in the 2023 season and was integral to Texas winning last year’s World Series.
