“Take notes, Transformers”: Godzilla X Kong Director Takes a Note Out of Minus One That Has Left Fans Pumped Despite Bad Initial Reviews

Godzilla x Kong, sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, is going to see the two monsters on the same team.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire‘s Godzilla and King Kong are ready to compete with Dune: Part 2‘s sandworms at the box office. The movie is a sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong and the fifth film in Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse franchise.

Internet trends have come and gone but the craze for Godzilla and King Kong has not diminished. The individual appearance of any of these monsters alone is enough to drive crowds to the cinema. The world has already witnessed an instance of the monsters sharing a screen, and the second one is almost out. The recent claims of Godzilla x Kong’s director have only added to the excitement, although the initial reviews are not very convincing.
Godzilla x Kong‘s Director’s Take on the Monster-Dominant Movie is Similar to Godzilla: Minus One

Godzilla x Kong continues the MonsterVerse that goes all the way back to 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. It is no secret that the stars in the upcoming movie are the titular monsters, who never showed up on the sets in reality, and not the human actors, who spent many days filming their scenes in front of the green or blue screens.
Godzilla: Minus One, released last year, was not a part of this particular universe. However, there was one common thing between the two movies besides that they both feature the giant kaiju. Both movies do not give much importance to the human characters in the storyline. Director Adam Wingard made sure of this.
The human stars of Godzilla x Kong confirmed as much during an interview with the Associated Press. Rebecca Hall, who reprised her role as Dr. Ilene Andrews from the first installment, said:
“They (Godzilla and King Kong) are the stars of the movie. We’re the scale.”
Dan Stevens, who debuts in the franchise as Trapper, a titan veterinary surgeon, labels himself and his human co-stars as “sideshow”.

The Godzilla x Kong‘s reviews from the premiere are mixed (via The Hollywood Reporter). Although the movie is praised for the final monster battle, many have criticized it for the lack of engagement on the emotional level because it has less to do with humans.

On the other hand, humans having less to do with the movie has fans very excited. One X user even wrote: “Take notes Transformers!!” This is a callout to the Transformers franchise which often prioritized the human characters instead of the titular transformers.
The fans are positive about this movie if these reactions are anything to go by. However, predicting its future is hard until it is in the cinemas.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be in cinemas from March 29.
