However, not everyone is fully on board with the Wrexham hype. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony expressed his views to talkSPORT, acknowledging the commendable effort of the Wrexham owners in implementing their project and achieving financial success through various ventures such as documentaries, advertising, and partnerships with skincare and beverage companies. MacAnthony noted the significant growth in Wrexham’s revenues, from £5 million to £15-£20 million annually, alongside their rise in promotions and crowd size.

While acknowledging the positive aspects of Wrexham’s journey, MacAnthony also critiqued the media’s extensive coverage of the club, finding it overwhelming and somewhat excessive. He praised Wrexham, its owners, and the staff behind the scenes but expressed frustration with the media’s disproportionate focus on the club, especially in comparison to other EFL clubs. MacAnthony emphasized the need for perspective, reminding that there are 72 EFL clubs deserving of attention and suggesting that Wrexham should refrain from assuming a status larger than clubs like Leeds United.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite his frustration with the ongoing attention directed towards Wrexham, MacAnthony acknowledges the club’s upward trajectory. He further commented on the efforts of Reynolds and McElhenney in steering the Welsh club towards success in the EFL pyramid. MacAnthony shared a conversation with his wife, predicting that Wrexham would reach the Championship within four years—a statement met with skepticism from his wife. However, MacAnthony remained confident, citing Wrexham’s financial capabilities to offer higher wages to players compared to clubs like Peterborough. He expressed respect for individuals who invest minimal personal funds into a project, yet significantly increase its value, potentially yielding substantial profits upon resale.

Wrexham has four remaining games in this season. Currently, they occupy the second position in the League Two table, trailing leaders Stockport by four points and holding a three-point advantage over Mansfield in fourth place. A top-three finish would secure their promotion to the third tier of English football.
