Billionaire Elon Musk: ‘Could Cybertruck be the official Moon rover?’

There’s been a lot of talk about the design decisions    Tesla has made   for the    Cyber Truck  . Some people love it, but others aren’t as kind in their criticism. One fan has found an application of the design that seems perfect: as a vehicle for the Moon. Considering Elon Musk’s mission to start SpaceX and take people to the Moon, the Cyber Truck seems perfectly suited to ferry people around the lunar body.

Of course, only an electric vehicle would make sense on the lunar surface. The atmosphere is necessary for internal combustion engines, but the Cyber Truck with its electric motor doesn’t need to worry about that. That may be part of the reason Charlie Automotive designed a SpaceX-NASA Cybertruck lunar rover, which they called Cyber6. For the concept, the designer added a third axle, bringing the total number of wheels to six, and rather than being intrusive, the extra wheels somehow make the Cyber Truck look more complete.

The tires have a lot more knobs than we see on Earth-based versions, but you might need that extra traction in the moon’s lower gravity. That knobby quality isn’t just down to the treads, though. They’re actually individual pods that can be easily replaced rather than having to remove the entire wheel. The truck also comes with extra light bars, which might come in handy on the dark side of the moon, as well as an antenna that appears to be for communications. There’s other equipment stacked on the back that’s probably just there to show off the hauling capabilities rather than suggest any additional functionality.

It’s not far-fetched to think that the Cyber Truck will be the official vehicle of the Moon. Tesla and SpaceX have been sharing employees lately, and SpaceX has already borrowed the electric car maker’s propulsion systems. The Cyber Truck’s seemingly apocalyptic build, with bulletproof glass and a steel exoskeleton, could prove useful on celestial bodies with harsh environments. What’s more, Musk has already said that “the Tesla Cybertruck (pressurized edition) will be the official truck of Mars.” Perhaps the Moon is the first step toward that.
