Elon Musk: Tesla car enters service as the first electric patrol car.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has reported overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the delisting of  Tesla Model Y   patrol    vehicles from its fleets.

According to BNN, officers stationed at British Columbia’s West Shore detachment and Ontario’s Rideau Hall Response Unit were among the first to experience the Tesla Model Y as part of their daily operational fleet.

BNN says Corporal Didier Thibault, the leader of the Rideau Hall response team, reports that feedback has been “overwhelmingly positive” and officers “arrive early to secure the vehicle for their shifts.” The reports highlighted the convenience of charging the vehicle and noted the “significant advantage of not having to refuel during shifts,” which is a common drawback with internal combustion engine vehicles.

Despite initial concerns about battery life, the RCMP reports that the lowest battery life recorded after “rigorous use” was 56%. Enough to drive an additional 250 km. The RCMP says that based on the success of the Model Y, it plans to expand its electric fleet this year.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are following the lead of the California Police, which began using the Model Y as a patrol vehicle last year. Closer to home, the Queensland Police also introduced their first all-electric patrol vehicle last year, a Kia EV6 GT-Line.

With instant acceleration and no dangerous exhaust fumes, electric vehicles are the perfect patrol cars for law enforcement. The absence of engine noise is an added benefit for sneaking up on criminals.
