It has been said that Justin Timberlake has been retired by fans as both his album and tours flopped coming off the heels of Britney Spears‘ bombshell allegations.
The 43-year-old musical artist – who is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour – has seemingly been forgotten about by his once diehard fans according to music industry experts.
Music journalist Touré of TheGrio told Paula Froelich of NewsNation: ‘A six-year break from your mid-thirties to your early forties is a really long time (for an artist).
‘Most of (Timberlake’s) fans have aged out of caring about him. It’s like the old saying goes, “You don’t retire – the audience retires you.”‘
It has been a rather tumultuous 2024 for Timberlake coming off the heels of his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman In Me – released in October 2023 – which included several bombshell allegations.
Some of the things he was accused of by the 42-year-old pop megastar included: cheating on her multiple times, urged her to get an abortion, and even used their break-up to launch his solo career.
Shortly after Timberlake was at the centered of an online firestorm, Britney extended an olive branch to the singer as she apologized for ‘some of the things’ she said in the book, as well as praising Justin’s new music.
Then in early February the Justified hitmaker made it clear he had no plans to follow her lead during a performance in New York City as he made a defiant stand to not make any apologies for his past actions.
During the stage show he said: ‘I’d like to to take this opportunity to apologize to absolutely f***ing nobody.’
Spears went on to delete her apologetic post and said in a post after: ‘Someone told me someone was talking s*** about me on the streets!!! Do you want to bring it to the court or will you go home crying to your mom like you did last time ??? I’m not sorry !!!’
Justin released his sixth studio album – titled Everything I Thought It Was – in March nearly six years since his previous release.
Despite getting mixed reviews the album was not a smashing success as it debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 earning just 67k album-equivalent units calculated from 31.13 million on-demand streams and 41,000 pure album copies.
His previous four solo studio albums all topped the chart, while his debut Justified reached number two.
Two weeks ago he launched his The Forget Tomorrow World tour in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
It may be his first tour in five years but the ticket sales have been anything but impressive as it has been experiencing lackluster sales with tickets being available in all sections in virtually every city.
Timberlake even recently had to cancel his June 8th concert in Columbia, South Carolina without explanation as Ticketmaster stated: ‘Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event.’
The pop star has yet to address the cancellation publicly.
Timberlake has been married to actress Jessica Biel since 2012 and they share two sons together: Silas, nine, and Phineas, three.
