The two cousins will be facing Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on the WrestleMania stage.

Dwayne Johnson and Roman Reigns will be teaming up against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag-team match at WrestleMania 40. The move was unexpected as Johnson and Reigns have an ongoing feud to be the greatest of all time and Johnson’s return to the ring after joining TKO Holdings as a board member even teased a confrontation on the ring.

However, after fans were disappointed with Cody Rhodes not being able to use his Royal Rumble win against the Tribal Chief, WWE seemed to have heard them and pitted the four against each other. Still, after Johnson and Reigns’ appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, fans suspect that a betrayal is in store.

Dwayne Johnson has turned completely into a heel for the upcoming WrestleMania 40 event as he beat his opponents without mercy earlier this week at Raw. The biggest event of WWE will see the Brahma Bull team up with his cousin Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Johnson returned to the ring earlier this year as he joined TKO Holdings, the promotion’s parent company as a board member.

However, when Johnson stepped into the ring earlier this year, the plan was different. Cody Rhodes had won the Royal Rumble and was touted to challenge Roman Reigns for a main event fight at WrestleMania 40 to ‘finish his tory’ of winning a World Championship. However, Dwayne Johnson entered the ring and challenged the Tribal Chief instead, enraging fans as the storyline had been built up for over a year (via Cinema Blend).

Cody Rhodes has been feuding with Roman Reigns since WrestleMania 39, where he lost against the star. Rhodes reportedly trained for a year to win the Royal Rumble so he could aim for Reigns’ championship at WrestleMania 40. While Rhodes got the victory, he had to step aside and let Dwayne Johnson continue his feud against Reigns (via WWE).

Fans reportedly demanded that Cody Rhodes have a main event with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, with the ‘We Want Cody’ campaign trending. WWE seemed to have listened to the fans and pitted Rhodes and Rollins against the two cousins.

Will Dwayne Johnson Betray Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40?

The main event of WrestleMania 40 would be the tag-team match between Dwayne Johnson/Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes/Seth Rollins. The match would be a climactic point for the storyline for each of the characters as it would decide whether Rhodes would ‘finish his story’ and defeat Reigns. It could also spark the next chapter in the feud between Reigns and Johnson.

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson hinted at a possible betrayal to Reigns. The wrestlers spoke about their upcoming showdown against their opponents. Amidst the trash talk, Johnson mentioned how they had been working hard for the past few months to bring the story to an interesting point. He said,

“At the end of the day, as my cousin was saying, there can only be one. And when there is only one, you have the Tribal Chief and you have the Final Boss…And I have the pleasure of getting back into the ring.”

Fans believed that Johnson’s statement of ‘There can only be one’ hints at him betraying his cousin Reigns at the showdown, enabling the next chapter of the feud. The move can aid Cody Rhodes in finishing his story as a champion while also giving Johnson and Reigns the required fuel to drag out a storyline for the next year. Fans were also quick to note the hand gestures made by The Rock which put himself at the top of the table.

WrestleMania 40 will stream on Peacock on April 6 from 7 PM ET.
