John Legend, who joined ‘The Voice’ as a coach in season 16, says he “loves” coaching the artists on the competition show and “helping them learn.”

“I love coaching on ‘The Voice’,” he told Entertainment Tonight, “I love working with our artists, just seeing people’s dreams come true through this show, giving them all the advice I’ve gotten over the years, helping them learn from all the experiences that I’ve had over the years. It’s a lot of fun for me.”

Unfortunately for those country music fans who were hoping to see the ‘God’s Country’ singer return to the NBC show, it seems as though he likely won’t return, unless his wife, Gwen Stefani, convinces him to do so.

“I feel like Gwen is the only chance we have. I don’t think Blake is coming back,” John said, laughing. “He is staying on the farm, he’s enjoying himself. I’ve talked to him and he’s, like, picking corn.”

Adding, “He sent us some fresh corn from the farm, he sent us some fresh peaches from the farm, we made peach cobbler. I don’t think he has any desire to come back to Hollywood and film ‘The Voice’.”

While many coaches have come and gone over the seasons, they still stay in touch. “We have different group chats for each combo of coaches and then Chrissy, Gwen, and Blake and I have a group chat where we’re just couples talking,” he shared of the show’s coaches. “We usually stay in touch with each other and we’re friends — it’s just a good vibe with all the other coaches.”

‘The Voice’ Season 25 has Dan + Shay, the first-ever Coach duo on the show, Reba McEntire, John Legend, and Chance the Rapper as coaches. When speaking about his competition with Reba, John says, “[Reba’s] obviously very seasoned in her career, she’s done everything from television to many, many, many, many, many hit songs over her career and performing on every stage you can imagine.”

He added, “She just brings such a wealth of experience and expertise to our show. We’re so lucky to have her.”

In regard to Dan + Shay, John says he has to watch out because they have the “new coach fire.”

“They’re trying to win,” he says of the country music duo, “We definitely battled back and forth when it came to the blind auditions and yeah, they’ve got the fire. They want to win.”

While he had an amazing time on the competition show, Shelton says it was time for him to step away so he could focus on his family.

“I think being a stepdad has changed my perspective in that I’m not the first person that I think about anymore,” he told Access Hollywood last year, adding, “Even to the small little things when you go, ‘I think I’ll do this,’ the very next thought is always, ‘Well, wait a minute. How’s that going work?’ Or, ‘What will they think?’ Or, ‘How will that affect a schedule?’”

He continued to say that “the only way for me to really do that right is to step away from being committed to something like  ‘The Voice’ that demands a lot of your time.”

“There’s no way around it. If you’re going to do it and do it right, you have to be 150 percent in,” he said before continuing, “And I just feel like those days are behind me for now. I got a more important job.”

‘The Voice’ airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
