Cassadee Pope is not afraid to speak her mind.

She is a country music star, too, but perhaps not for long because she recently said she was leaving the genre after speaking out against racism and transphobia in the industry.

But she still has an album coming out this spring, and she is still speaking out.

Take this week for instance. Pope created a bit of a social media stir when she took to Instagram to address her home state of Tennessee passing a law that allows officiants to refuse to marry couples.

“Hi, I don’t know if you know this, but the state I live in, Tennessee, passed a bill that allows public officials to not marry couples at their discretion,” she said. “Obviously, this is an attack on same sex couples.”

Then she dropped a surprise in there for everyone.

“But it just so happens that in 2020 I got really bored and became ordained,” she said.

Pope then showed off a certificate and said, “It’s official.”

“So, if you run into any issues,” she added, “I’d love to help you out.”

Many of the comments on the post were supportive.

“You are such an angel!!!!!” one person responded.

Of course there were negative comments, too.

“Yall turned the comments nasty,” one person said responding to those. “Literally all she was saying was ‘I gotchu’ if there’s an issue which regardless of anything is a beautiful sentiment and yall are just being gross in the comments. Go touch grass.”
