Rihanna stumbles in huge pink tulle gown at Grammy Awards, exclaims: ‘Found it online!’

Usually she is the one flashing the most skin, but not this year.

Rihanna was impossible to miss in one of the biggest gowns in Grammy history.

Despite arriving as the show started in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday night, the 26-year-old made a very grand entrance in a enormous pink tulle dress by Giambattista Valli.

Now that’s a dress: Rihanna was late but ensured no one missed her at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday evening

The We Found Love songstress did her best impression of a doll cake topper in the showstopping dress.

Running late, the singer struggled to walk into the show in the heavy gown, and had to continually pull the dress up to avoid a wardrobe malfunction.

The strapless empire line dress featured a tiny satin bustier with plaited silver embellishment before exploding into a voluminous textured skirt that fell into separate layers.

Held out from the star’s body with layers and layers of fabric there can be little doubt that she will be getting changed during the evening.

Not subtle: The bright pink gown will no doubt go down in history as on of the biggest ever worn on the Grammys red carpet

Stopping briefly to talk to E! host Ryan Seacrest she explained how she came across the dress that will no doubt be the talk of the night.

Rihanna explained: ‘I saw the dress on the internet and I just fell in love with it.’

With the dress already making a very loud statement, the star let the rest of her look low key, with her hair straightened into a low bun and her makeup left glowy and natural.

Online shopping: The 26-year-old discovered the gown by designer Giambattista Valli on the internet

Mani match: The Diamonds singer painted her nails the exact same pink and added silver crystals to match in with the blinged out rope on the edge of the dress

Feeling the flow: While she struggled to walk on to the red carpet, the singer got the hang of the dress quickly and swished it around for photographers

Rihanna went without a necklace leaving her decolletage bare but wore lots of diamonds on her fingers and multiple earrings in each ear.

Even if the dress is not to everyone’s tastes, walking into the ceremony Rihanna was already a winner with it announced prior to the event that her song Monster with Eminen had won Best Rap Collaboration.

As it was announced without the usual fanfare, the star celebrated with her glam squad and posted a picture of the moment.

Scaled back: With the dress already making a very loud statement, the star let the rest of her look low key, with her hair straightened into a low bun and her makeup left glowy and natural

Down in front: Somehow the We Found Love star managed to sit down in the audience, and Sam Smith did not mind one bit

In the image, the star is surrounded by five helpers in a tiny backstage dressing room.

Still makeup free with her stylist straightening her hair, she captioned the image simply: ‘we just won a GRAMMY!!! Congrats @eminem.’

With the pressure off, the Diamonds singer was free to focus on her big performance – her debut of hit FourFiveSeconds with Paul McCartney and Kanye West.

Number one fan! Katy Perry certainly was impressed by RihRih’s dress and could not stop stroking its textured tulle inside the Staples Center

Girly catch up: The purple haired singer was also rather taken with Rihanna’s manicure, grabbing her hands to get a closer look

Over the past few days excitement has been building for the trio’s performance, with the 26-year-old star teasing it on social media.

Even the stars were excited including new breakout star Charli XCX who tweeted that was what she was looking forward to most.

The Boom Clap star wrote: ‘Also I can’t wait to see Kanye, Rihanna and Paul perform tonight.’

Support network: Rihanna made time for her mentor Jay Z, who was already making time for a drink or two

And the winner is: As her win for Best Rap Collaboration was announced without the usual fanfare, the star celebrated with her glam squad and posted a picture of the moment

Practice makes perfect: Wanting it to be perfect, earlier on Sunday RihRih took time out from getting ready for the Grammys to have one last run through with Sir Paul and Mr. West

Clearly the pop star, the rapper and the Beatle got all the kinks ironed out as they happily hammed it up for cameras at the Staples Center.

Even the perpetually grumpy Kanye seemed in a great mood as the trio posed for camera.

The making of: On the red carpet, Kanye – who was joined by wife Kim Kardashian – spoke to Ryan Seacreast of the process of developing the single saying he had been working on Rihanna’s album and with Sir Paul and things just fell into place

Her rehearsal outfit was certainly very different to her red carpet look.

The 26-year-old blended casual, 𝑠e𝑥y and cool wearing a pair of loose fit over the knee shiny black polyester shorts with a cropped black top that showed off her impressively lean stomach.

Showing how to do the sports luxe style well – which was seen on the red carpet on trendsetter Pharrell Williams – the singer accessorised her look with a pair of white twin strapped high heels with chain detail.

On the red carpet, Kanye spoke of the process of developing the single saying he had been working on Rihanna’s album and with Sir Paul and things just fell into place.

He told E! host Ryan he always wants to try new things: ‘I just get bored with things really easy, so I just try to do some things that excite me.

‘I’m executive producer on Rihanna’s album and I played her my album and some of the tracks with Paul McCartney and she just had to have it.’

Such a tease: Over the past few days excitement has been building for the trio’s performance, with the 26-year-old star teasing it on social media

The rapper – with his very sparkly wife Kim Kardashian on his arm – would not reveal when the world can expect Rihanna’s new album to be released.

The Grammys are a rather conflicted occasion for the star, as while she has been nominated an amazing 24 times – and won eight Grammys – it also serves as a reminder of her roller coaster relationship with now ex Chris Brown.

In 2009, following a pre-party the night before the Grammys, Chris assaulted his then girlfriend on the way home, leaving her with terrible facial injuries.

Bringing it back: FourFiveSeconds has given 72-year-old Sir Paul his biggest hit in 28 years

However four years later, the pair reunited and celebrating being in love again at the 2013 awards – much to many people’s shock – be spending most of the ceremony kissing and cuddling in the front row.

There will be no repeat of that again this year, with organisers sitting the pair far apart.

According to Hollywood Life, Rihanna wants to ensure her big night does not involve an awkward run-in with her ex.

Not staying away: Chris was at the awards nice and early despite reports that his ex was hoping he would keep his distance from her big night

A source told the website: ‘She has a big performance and she wants it to be her night.

‘She doesn’t want it to be dominated by everyone leaving the show talking about Chris and Rihanna in the same building.

‘The Grammys are about the celebration of music and Rihanna has a job to do, she wants it to be drama free so she wants Chris not to be there.’

Of course, she may have wanted that but Chris was there early despite a rather late night of partying.
