John Torode and Gregg Wallace had told all six hopefuls they’d be making a dish inspired by school dinners from their childhoods.
The challenge was set by food critic William Sitwell who made a guest appearance to judge each dish.
At the end of the day three cooks would be eliminated from the show.
However, when it came to crunch time, Gregg and John were left tearing up the rulebook.
The first two hopefuls to get the boot from the renowned cooks were Jerome and Fateha.
41-year-old IT teacher Fateha said: “I do feel a little bit sad but I can call myself a MasterChef quarter finalist.”
However, Jerome took the news harder and said: “I’m never going to cook again!
“It’s a shame always not to go further, but I’ve really enjoyed my time here and no regrets.”
Louise and Brin remained and one of them had to follow their fellow competitors out of the kitchen.
But in a u-turn, John announced: “We’ve decided that you’re both going through to Knockout week.”
Reacting to the last minute shake-up at home, one MasterChef fan said: ” Fantastic decision. Four fabulous Chefs gone through. It wouldn’t have been right to have lost one of them.”
A second wrote: “Raging for Fatma! They should have just sent home one person this episode. Her dish wasn’t worth being sent home over.”
“Good call letting 4 through. It had to be,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “Going to be hard choosing just three to go through from the six contestants.”
MasterChef continues Monday on BBC One and iPlayer.
