Speaking about rejoining the show, Tom said: “The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on.
“The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect.
“I’m so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can’t wait.”
Filming on the series, which was a huge success when it aired on BBC1 in 2016, will start later this year and is likely to air in late 2025.
BBC content boss Charlotte Moore said: “After years of fervent speculation I’m incredibly excited to confirm that The Night Manager is returning to the BBC for two more series.”
The Night Manager’s first run earned it multiple BAFTAs, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes awards.
The new seasons of The Night Manager, an adaptation of John le Carré’s novel of the same name, is exec produced by Hugh Laurie, 64, who played evil arms dealer Richard Roper in the show’s first outing.
Viewers relished seeing him dragged to his apparent death, but because they didn’t see him getting killed left the story open for him making a return too.
The show was a sensation when it first aired as it saw the producers splash some serious cash and produce a TV show which looked more like a James Bond movie.
That included some seriously steamy moments between Elizabeth’s character, Jed Marshall, and Jonathan behind the back of her boyfriend in the form of baddie Roper.
The most famous of their sex scenes saw Tom famously bare his buttocks as they made love against a wall, and create one of the defining images of the programme.
There were immediate calls for the Beeb to make another series, and the creators said they wanted to deliver more, but after so long it was feared the project would never be revisited.
Olivia Colman, 50, also starred in the show as foreign office official, Angela Burr, and she could return too.
In fact the only character who definitely won’t be seen again is Roper’s sidekick, Corky, who ended up dead by the end of the first series.
