Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice has made a poignant comment about his future with the BBC.

The professional dancer is a fan favourite on the show, but he has been quizzed about his ‘intense’ training sessions after Amanda Abbington – who quit after just five weeks, citing “medical reasons” – later went on to claim that she suffered PTSD after the show.

Giovanni has been constantly backed by the BBC and recently, he admitted: “I am a perfectionist, 100%, but it comes from a perspective of caring. I think all of the professional dancers are in the same place. In every single part of the world, if you’re a professional dancer on one of these shows, you have to get these people looking the best they can on Saturday night.

“And if we have good scores at the end, I do look back and say, ‘I’ve done a great job’. But we all care about our partners and we want that for them every single week – to look great on a Saturday. There’s no specific way that you are, or have to be with your celebrity. You make the most of their strengths so the only thing that’s constant is the fact that you have to do a show on Saturday night.”

Whilst it is believed Giovanni is having “crunch” talks with the BBC this week about his Strictly contract, with him expecting to return to the show later this year, his other project with the BBC wrapped up this evening.

Giovanni also fronts his show, Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain, with his Strictly co-star and friend Anton du Beke. Tonight, the pair brought Anton’s family – including his mum, his wife and his twins – to join them in Spain for the last chapter of their adventure through the European country. Last year, they had headed to Sicily to explore Giovanni’s hometown.

“Thank you for having me in your country. To say I’m glad to be here is not enough, I came here because I can see my best friend happier,” Giovanni told his friend and co-star Anton as they reflected on their Spanish adventure.

Anton then replied: “What a lovely lovely way to spend the summer. Where to next?” given that they had both visited places special to them. Giovanni seemingly hinted that their show would be back again, as he told him: “Well it doesn’t really matter where we’re going as long as we are together. I love you,” as the pair embraced.
