Popular One Piece and JJK animator Vincent Chansard predicts a slow death for the anime industry, arguing that workable solutions are being ignored.
Beloved Jujutsu Kaisen, Boruto and One Piece animator Vincent Chansard has predicted a slow death for the anime industry in a nearly hour-long stream about his inspirations and experiences, before painting a dire image of the years to come.
Chansard said that Japan was in late-stage capitalism to KonohaTV, adding that the industry was ramping up productions for profit while driving down animator skill level. “We know the solution! We completely know the solution! The two major solutions to the lack of workers are firstly, salary reevaluation to attract more workers, and second, more ways for new members to become more qualified. And what are the solutions adopted by the Japanese productions right now? None of them! The solutions exist but you have to apply them,” Chansard stated.

Vincent Chansard Has Gained Notoriety for His Statements Regarding MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen
Chansard is one of the most well-known animators on social media, particularly famous for his work in One Piece‘s Luffy vs. Kaido fight, Boruto and Jujutsu Kaisen. His work again received widespread acclaim on the recent Blu-ray edition of one of Jujutsu Kaisen‘s most popular episodes, “Thunderclap, Part 2” (Episode 41) after the episode received extended cuts. Chansard’s notoriety for his bluntness regarding the industry, and specifically, Jujutsu Kaisen studio MAPPA, has also been growing. He made waves when she said he’d never work with MAPPA again, stating, “I don’t want to support a company that ideologically doesn’t care about working conditions.”
Terumi Nishii, who has worked as an animator for over 20 years, breaks down the problematic structure of Japan’s modern anime industry.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 chief animation director Nishii Terumi is one of Chansard’s most notable supporters on social media, calling his criticism of MAPPA “refreshing.” However, she also takes a slightly different opinion to Chansard, stating that in only a few years — after the generation of Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena animation director Hisashi Kagawa finishes — that “everything will end at once.”
