Can the Golden State Warriors Still Qualify for Playoffs?Stephen Curry (Image Source: Getty Images)

Golden State Warriors lost 108-106 to the Dallas Mavericks without Luka Doncic on the road on Friday. With 13 seconds remaining, Steph Curry made a step-back jumper to equalize the score, but P.J. Washington’s game-winning layup overshadowed the play. At the buzzer, Klay Thompson attempted a desperate three-pointer that just missed the hoop, sending the Dubs home empty-handed.

Golden State Warriors’ record fell to 42-35 with the defeat, although they were still in 10th place in the West. The visitors were disappointed because they might have gotten nearer to the eighth-ranked Sacramento Kings (44-33) with a victory. As per the NBA website, despite losing to the Boston Celtics 101-100, Sacramento managed to hold onto its current West position.

The forward Jonathan Kuminga has had difficulty getting over his persistent problem of tendinitis in his left knee. In Friday’s loss to the Mavericks, it marked his sixth consecutive game in street clothes.

The rising star will ultimately return, but it will be gradually, according to Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who informed the reporters. If Kuminga is compromised, the Golden State Warriors’ chances of winning a championship would be severely damaged.

Golden State Warriors Can Eye for the Play-In Tournament

Now trailing the 46-31 Phoenix Suns by four games for the sixth spot in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors are in second place. The Dubs are expected to snag the last spot in the playoffs with just five games remaining. Despite their difficult remaining schedule, the Suns are probably beyond the Warriors’ reach.

Nonetheless, Steph Curry and the company may still advance to the eighth position, which is a better position than their current one. In the standings, Sacramento is only two games ahead of them. Given their current form, the Kings may fall farther down the standings.

Golden State may advance by taking advantage of Sacramento’s circumstances. They will just need to triumph once in the play-in competition if they secure the eighth position.
