Danny Green Thinks LeBron James Will Retire After One More Year, If Not Sooner

Danny Green thinks LeBron James’ career is in its final season or two.

Danny Green has given a take that will upset many fans, as the former two-time champion believes LeBron James’ career is closer to its end than everyone realizes while talking on ESPN about if James will retire first or the Warriors’ big three will break up.

“I think they expire at the same time and at most, another year. A lot of antics, a lot of turmoil, and a lot of ups and downs with Klay, I’m not sure if they’ll get him back. I think LeBron plays one more year. If not sooner, but I see both of these groups ending at the same time and it could be this summer.”

The response stunned Kendrick Perkins and Mallika Andrews, as Green explained James would stay just to play alongside Bronny James despite being a free agent this summer.

“They can offer him a contract, he’s still gonna retire before that contract ends. I give it one more year. He’s gonna try and play with Bronny. 22 years with that body, those miles, it’s coming to an end quickly… I see him extending one more year to play with Bronny.”

Green reminded everyone that James isn’t superhuman and that Father Time will eventually catch up.

“I know we look at him as superhuman, but he’s still a human being. He’s giving Father Time a good run for his money, but ultimately, Father Time always wins. In Year 22, we saw it happen to Kobe, we saw it happen to Dirk, we saw it happen to Vince. Players become shells of themselves who were great. He may not be a shell of himself, but I don’t see him wanting to be that at this point in his career.”

James is defying established conventions by playing at an incredibly high level in Year 21 of his career, averaging 25.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists. James could play for as long as he wants, but it does look like we’re in the endgame, even if we don’t want to admit it.

LeBron James Discussed His Possible Retirement

Everyone knows James can retire any minute. That’s why he felt the need to tell the world he won’t be retiring at the 2023 ESPY Awards before playing this season, James spoke about retirement after the Lakers last win over the Nets.

“Not very long. I’m on the other side. I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure. But not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far as when I’ll retire. But I don’t have much time left.”

If the Lakers can’t compete for a title, there really isn’t any reason for James to continue playing outside of being teammates with Bronny James. If you add all of that, Green’s prediction could be true. James is making it clear he thinks about his impending retirement, even talking about not being sure if he wants a farewell tour.

We need to appreciate James in the final few seasons of his career as he continues to put in mind-boggling performances. He really could play another two to three seasons if he wanted to, but does he even want to? It’s been a long career, and he’s earned some time off.
