Robert Plant and Jimmy Page enjoyed lots of success with Led Zeppelin. However, on the flip side, there were also struggles. Among them was almost losing $55 million because of Stairway to Heaven. In addition, there were rumors of Led Zeppelin getting booed off the stage early on in their run.

Nonetheless, the iconic group clearly had more positives than negatives. Given their stardom, fans were open to a reunion of sorts, and it seems like the band was as well. However, one person got in the way of that, and it was Robert Plant

We’ll reveal what went down, and how it caused tension between Plant and Page.

According to THR, big money was also on the table, but it wasn’t enough to entice a certain member of the group. Plant reportedly turned down $800 million for the reunion. The publication notes that Plant initially asked for extra days to think about it. Once he returned, Plant decided to rip up the contract…

The Hollywood Reporter wrote almost a decade ago, “Jimmy, John and Jason signed up immediately,” said the Mirror‘s source, adding, “It was a no-brainer for them, but Robert asked for 48 hours to think about it. When he said no and ripped up the paperwork he had been given, there was an enormous sense of shock. There is no way they can go ahead without him.”

It was also said that trying to change Plant’s mind over the matter was simply impossible.

“They have tried to talk him round, but there is no chance. … His mind is made up, and that’s that,” said the source.

Jimmy Page made his intentions clear, he was open to a reunion with Led Zeppelin. However, once the plans fell through, Page was ready to move on, and didn’t want to keep discussing the matter. He said at the time,

“I was told last year that Robert Plant said he is doing nothing in 2014, and what do the other two guys think?” Page said in an interview with the Times. “Well, he knows what the other guys think. Everyone would love to play more concerts for the band. He’s just playing games, and I’m fed up with it, to be honest with you. I don’t sing, so I can’t do much about it.”

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page is one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest guitarists, however, he has engaged in controversial behavior while on tour.

Page made it clear that he still had the desire to play. “Absolutely, absolutely. I definitely want to play live. Because, you know, I’ve still got a twinkle in my eye. I can still play. So, yeah, I’ll just get myself into musical shape, just concentrating on the guitar.”

He continues, “I’m not devoid of ideas. So let’s hope that some time in the next year, I’m seen to be playing out there. Because that’s the only thing that’s been missing.”

Credit to Page for assessing the matter honestly. But looking back, Plant wasn’t pleased with Page’s comments.

Robert Plant Was “Disappointed” By Jimmy Page’s Reaction

“I feel for the guy,” Plant tells the publication. “He knows he’s got the headlines if he wants them. But I don’t know what he’s trying to do. So I feel slightly disappointed and baffled.”

Plant went on to state that he was open to potentially reuniting years prior, but it was Page that shut the door on him.

“A couple of years ago, I said, ‘If you’ve got anything acoustic, let me know. I’ll give it a whirl. It was hands across the water. He just walked away. But we couldn’t do anything proper. The weight of expectation is too great.”

Plant added about Page’s comments, “I think he needs to go to sleep and have a good rest, and think again. We have a great history together and like all brothers, we have these moments where we don’t speak on the same page, but that’s life.”

Testy times for Led Zeppelin. Thankfully, fans will always have the memories of their tremendous work.
