Metallica partners with the truck maker to rock futuristic tour transportation: ‘We’re getting into the new era’
The Italian truck maker Iveco Group is creating specially designed vehicles for the band.
This summer, Metallica will be touring Europe, and its convoy will be driving trucks that run on hydrogen fuel cells.
Metallica’s global tour will begin in Munich, Germany on May 24. They currently have 14 performances planned in nine different locations in Western and Central Europe as well as Scandinavia.
During the tour, which ends in Madrid, Spain on July 14, some of the trucks that transport the band’s instruments and other equipment will travel thousands of kilometers on hydrogen.
For the band, Iveco Group, an Italian truck manufacturer, is creating specially designed vehicles that produce the least amount of pollution that harms the environment. “Everywhere they have concerts, we can engage together on sustainability,” said Gerrit Marx, CEO of Iveco Group.
The fact that natural gas is often required to power the electrolyzers that create hydrogen by separating hydrogen molecules from oxygen molecules in water is one of the main reasons why hydrogen is still a rapidly expanding clean energy source.
Although that could be the situation in much of the globe, the BiԀen administration has provided further incentives to businesses that use sustainable energy to produce hydrogen. Hydrogen manufacturers are not allowed to utilize the US electricity grid in order to get the full tax credit. They are required to utilize energy from a renewable energy source that was constructed within the previous three years instead.
