HIGHLIGHTS

Howard Stern defended his affection towards his wife Beth after Bill Maher criticized their relationship.
Stern called Maher “nutty” and “sexist” for his comments, and also took a jab at Maher’s heavy marijuana use.
Stern revealed that Maher has a bad reputation in Hollywood.

Howard Stern was absolutely furious with Bill Maher after the Real Time host commented about his wife Beth during an interview on his podcast, “Club Random”.

Maher’s criticism of how openly loving Stern is to his wife made huge news, as did Stern’s firm response in which he defended both Beth and his ex-wife, Alison Berns.

But during the radio legend’s takedown of his former friend on September 19th, 2023 he also addressed Maher’s reputation in Hollywood.

Around the same time, Maher faced criticism for his recalled decision to bring back HBO’s Real Time despite there being a writer’s strike.

This brought him a tidal wave of anger, frustration, and disappointment from his fans and critics alike. But Stern’s assessment of what Hollywood actually thinks of him went far beyond that…

Inside Howard Stern’s Feud With Bill Maher

There’s no question that Howard Stern is head-over-heels for his wife, Beth.

The two married in 2008 after many years of dating and have been together ever since. This, of course, is Stern’s second marriage.

He tied the knot with his first wife and baby mama, Alison Berns when the two were in college in 1978. Together they had three daughters together, Emily, Deborah, and Ashley.

Stern has been respectful of his ex-wife’s privacy and revealed little about their divorce.

But Bill Maher’s comments about Stern’s relationship with Beth also dragged Berns in, forcing the self-proclaimed King Of All Media to respond.

“I must say, there’s this thing that men do … Howard Stern … he’s saying to me, ‘Bill, you’re successful, but don’t you want to settle down?”‘ Maher said to Julian Lennon on his podcast ‘Club Random’.

“And he goes on about how much he loves his wife, Beth, which he has been doing on the air for, like, 10 years.”

According to People, Maher went on to say, “So, he’s trying to make me seem like I’m the slightly immoral one because I won’t settle down and all I could think of is, ‘How does this gushing about the second wife — how does that make the first wife feel?’

Could we just not gush about the person while the other person can still hear it?”

In response, Howard Stern, as well as his longtime co-host Robin Quivers, called Maher’s comments both “nutty” and “sexist”.

“[Maher] ought to shut his mouth,” Stern said to Quivers and his audience on September 19th, 2023. “I mean, I don’t think I come on the air every day and say, ‘I love my wife.’

But I thought it was a pretty positive message, to — especially with my audience — to say to guys: ‘Instead of like ragging on our wives, how about talking about that we appreciate them and love them?'”

Howard Stern’s Comments About Bill Maher’s Bad Reputation In Hollywood

On the September 19th, 2023 episode of The Howard Stern Show, the radio host addressed Bill Maher’s criticism about his relationship with his wife Beth.

After Stern explained what Maher said about him and Beth, his long-time co-host Robin Quivers asked if the comments were said on the podcast where he “smokes weed”.

This gave Stern the chance to criticize how much marijuana Bill Maher smokes…

“As long as we’re being honest, I mean, really dude? I think you’re almost 70 years old.

We get it, you smoke weed. He sits there and smokes weed like, ‘Wow, look at me.

Look what I’m doing, I’m smoking weed… Dude, I’m smoking weed. I can’t believe I’m smoking weed,'” Stern said of Maher’s habit.

“And it seems to me that the guest [on ‘Club Random’] doesn’t smoke weed that much,” Stern continued.

Robin Quivers then claimed that Bill Maher’s guest on this specific episode of his podcast, Julian Lennon, likely wasn’t there to talk about Stern’s love life.

“I guess when you’re wasted you tend to go off on a tangent. Maybe that’s the whole point of the show,” Stern responded. “And, by the way, this is what happens when Bill doesn’t have writers.

He just goes into a ramble about somebody’s life that he knows nothing about. But who cares in the end? It’s so exhausting.”

Stern’s comment seemed to be a shot at Bill Maher’s September 2023 decision to bring back Real Time without his writers during the strike.

According to The Daily Mail, this choice earned him a tidal wave of criticism from his colleagues in Hollywood.

Maher was labeled a “scab” for crossing the picket lines, similar to Drew Barrymore who made (and also reneged) a similar choice.

However, when a caller asked Howard Stern to comment directly on Maher’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA’s strike position, he declined.

While Stern admitted that he, like Maher, is judgemental, he really didn’t appreciate the comments the Real Time host made about him and his wife, Beth.

This caused him to reveal what some of their Hollywood colleagues have said about Maher behind his back.

“When [Bill Maher] says, ‘we’re friends’, we’re not friends. I mean, we are friends on the air.

In other words, I did his show and he has done my show.

And I really enjoy him as a guest. But he also has a reputation of being a tremendous a**hole,” Stern claimed.

“I’m not going to mention any names but I was in conversation with two very famous people the other day telling me what an a**hole [Maher] is.”

Stern went on to say that he doesn’t feel that way about Maher.

“I just think he should back off the pot a little bit… as long as we’re judging everybody.

Maybe he’s getting a little confused. Maybe put down the pipe,” Stern jabbed.

“Of all the things I get criticized for, I thought loving my wife would be something I might be praised for.”
