Now, here’s the reigning champion of the box office, making his debut appearance on our show. You see, Gelman snagged him before anyone else could, even before Rocky. This weekend, he’s the talk of the town, the hottest commodity in showbiz.
Let’s take a sneak peek at a scene from “Home Alone” featuring Macaulay Culkin. That was a hilarious moment with Pesci playing one of the bungling burglars attempting to break into the kid’s house. This movie is the sleeper hit of the year, and here he is, Macaulay Culkin.
Nice to meet you. I mean, this is it, pal. You’re a bona fide star right now, with the number one box office hit of the weekend. It’s a pleasure to have you on the show.
You might recognize him from “Uncle Buck.” Lee, have you seen that movie? It’s dynamite, a real gem. So, how are you doing? Are you enjoying the success?
Yeah, it’s all in a day’s work.
They tell me you’re trying to put on some weight, huh? Well, let me tell you, you look great. I’m pretty skinny; I weigh about 62 pounds. Most kids in my class weigh around 97, so they outsize me by about 30 pounds.
Did they put you on a special diet to bulk you up?
No, I just eat a lot.
You’re from New York City, right?
Yes.
How did you get into acting at such a young age?
I have an agent. She’s been with me since I was about six.
So, you’ve been wanting to get into acting since you were six?
It sort of just happened. My friend was a stage manager for a Broadway show, and they needed a six-year-old kid. I auditioned and got the part. Directors saw me and I auditioned for movies and stuff after that.
Who’s your agent? We could use someone like them!
I’m the third oldest of seven kids. My younger brother was in the movie too, and my older brother was in a Broadway show.
And you all live here in New York City?
Yes.
How old are you?
Ten.
Do you go to school?
Yes.
What are your favorite subjects?
Math, science, and gym.
Ha! Just kidding. You know what it says on our cards – gym and lunch.
Tell me about this movie, “Home Alone.”
It’s about a kid who gets left home alone. He’s so self-sufficient that he outsmarts everyone trying to break into his house.
Joe Pesci was in it too, right?
Yeah, it was a lot of fun working with him.
Let’s take a look at another clip from “Home Alone.” You set up some traps for the burglars, right?
Yeah, that’s right.
I think every kid dreams of getting back at the adults sometimes, you know? When I was a kid, I used to have things set up all around the house.
So, what’s your next project?
I’m working on “Only the Lonely.”
Sounds like a big movie.
I don’t know about that, but it’s with John Candy again.
Well, alright. We want to wish you the very best, Macaulay. Thanks for coming in. Good luck with everything. You’re the biggest thing to hit the screens in ages.
