Mariah Carey might have a really good reason to resent Jennifer Lopez which most of both women’s fans don’t know about.

Mariah Carey claims that Jennifer Lopez’s hit song “I’m Real” was a ripoff of her music.
Carey alleges that her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, stole her ideas for the soundtrack of her movie “Glitter” and gave them to Lopez.
Despite the controversy, “I’m Real” became one of Lopez’s biggest hits, spending five weeks at number one on Billboard’s chart.
On top of Lopez and Carey’s career similarities, there also is a lot of gossip about Lopez and Carey’s love lives.
Considering everything they have in common, it would be wonderful if Lopez and Carey had each other’s backs.
Instead, there appears to be a possibility that one of Lopez’s biggest successes was stolen from Carey.
Mariah Carey Claims Jennifer Lopez’s Hit Song Was A Ripoff
In 2001, Mariah Carey’s movie Glitter was released and became a flop.
At the time, Carey was mercilessly mocked over the failed project, but over time, the conversation around the film and its soundtrack began to change.
The reason for that is that people came to learn that Glitter may have been sabotaged, with Jennifer Lopez involved in the movie’s failure.
Via: InstarAs is often the case, the release of Glitter was preceded by the movie’s soundtrack coming out.
Since Carey starred in Glitter, the movie’s soundtrack focused on her, and she was credited with co-writing every song.
Unfortunately for Carey, however, it has been claimed that some of her plans for the movie’s soundtrack were sabotaged.
Not only that, the person who allegedly sabotaged the soundtrack was Carey’s ex-husband, Tommy Mottola.
According to reports, Mottola didn’t just sabotage Carey’s efforts.
Instead, it has widely been claimed that Mottola also lifted up one of Carey’s peers in the process, Jennifer Lopez.
Jennifer Lopez’s flight attendant rule for Ben Affleck started with her previous marriage, but that isn’t the only rule she has for her husband.
In 2020, Carey released her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey”.
In that book, Carey claimed that her ex-husband, Mottola, who also was the CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, stole her ideas for Glitter’s soundtrack.
Carey also claimed that Mottola gave those ideas to Lopez, which inspired one of her hit songs.
Furthermore, Carey claimed that Mottola did all of this to get revenge because he was furious that she divorced him, and he lost control over her.
“Tommy was furious when I cut the strings he used to manipulate me.”
Via: InstarThe first way that Mottola allegedly stole from Carey was by scooping a sample his ex-wife planned to use.
Carey’s original plan was for her song “Loverboy” to feature a sample from Yellow Magic Orchestra’s song “Firecracker”.
However, according to Carey’s book, Mottola convinced Lopez to use the same sample in her song “I’m Real”.
Carey wrote in her book that she felt forced to not use the sample since I’m Real was released as a part of an album that came out before Glitter’s Soundtrack.
Of course, it could be claimed that Carey was the one who was the bitter ex, and she made up her allegation about the sample.
However, according to a Fox News article that cited XXL Magazine, the music publisher behind “Firecracker” confirmed that Carey sought permission to use the sample first.
Mariah Carey appeared to be extremely uncomfortable because of Howard Stern objectifying her.
“But here’s a key revelation: the music publisher of ‘Firecracker’ — the sample that Ja Rule used first with Carey and then with Lopez — told me yesterday: ‘Mariah Carey called us to license a sample from Firecracker first. Then, within a month, Jennifer Lopez also called for it.'”
On top of that, a Fox News article which was based on XXL Magazine’s reporting seemed to confirm that another one of Carey’s plans was stolen.
As the previous quote seems to confirm, the music publisher behind “Firecracker” knew that Carey worked with Ja Rule on one of her songs from the soundtrack.
Similarly, Ja Rule played a massive role in “I’m Real” becoming a massive hit.
The version of “I’m Real” that became popular was a remix that featured Ja Rule as a guest artist.
Was it a coincidence that “I’m Real” featured Carey’s collaborator and sample? According to a music producer, that wasn’t a coincidence at all.
Via: Sony Music EntertainmentWhile talking to XXL Magazine for an article Fox News later cited, record producer Irv Gotti shone a light on the production of “I’m Real”.
As Gotti explained, before he produced “I’m Real” for Jennifer Lopez, he worked on the soundtrack for Glitter.
Gotti claimed that Mottola called him personally to instruct him to get Ja Rule to work on “I’m Real”, which made the record producer realize that his boss wanted the song to rip Carey off.
“I get a call from Tommy Mottola, who I have a great relationship with, and he’s like, ‘I need you to do me a favor.
I want you to do this remix for Jennifer Lopez.
I want you to put Ja on the record. Immediately I knew what he was doing because we just finished the Mariah record.”
According to Carey, Gotti, and the publishers behind “Firecracker”, “I’m Real” was produced to rip off plans for the Glitter soundtrack.
One thing that is important to note in all of this, however, is that none of the quotes about “I’m Real” suggest that Lopez was the one behind what allegedly happened.
Jennifer Lopez’s Song That Allegedly Ripped Off Mariah Carey Was A Massive Success
During Jennifer Lopez’s career, she has become one of the biggest music stars of her generation.
One of the reasons for that is the fact that Lopez has released a slew of hit songs that charted.
Jennifer Lopez has a reputation for making a lot of demands which may make it hard to work with her.
Even though Lopez has been incredibly successful, her song “I’m Real” still stands out as one of her biggest songs.
In fact, according to Billboard’s website, Lopez only has one song that was more successful than “I’m Real”.
After “Ain’t It Funny” debuted on Billboard’s chart in 2001, Lopez’s second hit song featuring Ja Rule rose to the top of the chart.
On Billboard’s website, they report that “Ain’t It Funny” was the number-one song on the chart for a total of six weeks.
Via: TheThingsLopez’s second most successful song is “I’m Real”, a hit that reportedly was a ripoff of Mariah Carey’s music.
According to Billboard, “I’m Real” topped their chart for five weeks and was successful enough to be listed for 31 weeks.
Notably, Lopez had one more song that was almost as successful, “If You Had My Love”.
Just like “I’m Real”, “If You Had My Love” topped the chart for five weeks.
However, “If You Had My Love” was listed for 25 weeks, which is six less than “I’m Real”.
