NFC Heavyweight Lands Broncos Superstar CB Patrick Surtain II In Massive Trade Proposal That Would Make Them The Conference’s Team To Beat
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – OCTOBER 01: Pat Surtain II #2 of the Denver Broncos looks on against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on October 01, 2023 in Chicago, Illinois.
Since the new league year began on Wednesday, the Broncos have commenced a giant roster overhaul. They released starting quarterback Russell Wilson (taking on $85 million in dead money in the process) and All-Pro safety Justin Simmons. And on top of that, star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon recently proposed the idea of the Broncos committing yet another offseason blockbuster move, one that would have them dealing Surtain to the Detroit Lions in exchange for the No. 29 selection in this year’s draft plus 2025 first and fourth-round picks:
“Look, the Broncos should not be eager to trade Surtain. They also could receive a massive haul in return from the Detroit Lions, who enjoyed a stellar year despite a real issue at corner.
Detroit ranked 31st in yards allowed per pass attempt and yielded 28 touchdowns compared to 16 interceptions. Surtain would probably cost no less than two first-round picks. But if the Lions are ready to chase a Super Bowl, he’d be a championship-worthy splash at their largest position of need.”

The Lions have already made one big splash on the CB trade market, acquiring Carlton Davis III from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But you can never have too many quality corners in today’s NFL that is dominated by pass-heavy offenses, so Surtain would be the perfect pickup for Dan Campbell and company.
The reigning NFC runner-ups would have a scary-good secondary led by a top-tier corner in Surtain, a rock-solid cover man in Davis and rising star Brian Branch, who just turned in a phenomenal rookie year.
Adding Surtain would be a savvy win-now move for the Lions. Kenyon’s proposal also makes perfect sense for a Denver team that can use additional draft capital or its retooling phase.
