Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has taken to social media with a cryptic post following his trade request.
The star wide receiver appears to be keen on playing football elsewhere in 2024 as he has asked the Bengals to ship him off after what has been a disappointing period.
Higgins’s frustrations stem from the team’s failure to discuss a long-term contract extension with him, something which he has been looking to do for a while now.
The Bengals franchise-tagged the wideout at the start of free agency, which means he’s on a one-year deal worth $21.8 million. Clearly, he wants more years; and he wants more money.
Tee Higgins Is Feeling Like He’s Locked Up
Tee Higgins posted a short clip to his Instagram Story in which Akon’s 2003 hit, “Locked Up”, can be heard playing. Check it out right below:
There’s little hiding what he’s trying to say here, but he could also be trolling.
A second-round pick in 2020 NFL Draft, Higgins was the main recipient of Joe Burrow’s passes before he became the No. 2 receiver behind Ja’Marr Chase.
He has made 257 catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns in his four NFL seasons. Higgins had his best years in 2021 and 2022 as he registered over 74 catches for over 1,000 yards in both campaigns while scoring a total of 13 TDs. He had a difficult 2023 season due to injuries but still has a pretty bright future as he’s only 25.
Given that he’s been tagged, any team looking to sign him will need to hand the Bengals two first-round picks in exchange, though another deal that works for Cincinnati could be worked out.
There are plenty of teams around the NFL looking to bring in a top wide receiver, so Higgins shouldn’t have trouble finding a new home once the Bengals decide to grant his request and set him free.
