Draymond Green never shies away from stating his odd views on the different aspects of the NBA, especially if it involves one of his on-court rivals. Recently, the one who got under his scrutiny was Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert.

On his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” the host took a dig at the 4-time DPOY winner for not taking the responsibility of guarding opponent Nikola Jokić in the semifinal playoff series against the Denver Nuggets and instead letting teammate Karl-Anthony Towns defend the big man.

Green started off by saying, “How about this, we sit here breaking down KAT [Karl Anthony-Towns] having to stop Joker [Nikola Jokić] who’s a center, and the Defensive Player of the Year is on your team and he’s a center.” Then the Warriors veteran added, “It’s like if Marcus Smart won Defensive Player of the Year back then [in 2022], which he did, but they’re like, ‘Jaylen [Brown] you got to go guard Steph [Curry]. But Marcus Smart’s a point guard. Marcus Smart you won Defensive Player of the Year, you got to go guard Steph, right?… There’s a center who won [it] and we’re asking Karl-Anthony Towns to go guard the center.”

Their scuffle broke out in November 2023 during a regular season game between the Golden State Warriors and Timberwolves when Green choked the Wolves center in the first quarter and eventually got a 5-game suspension. The 4-time champion has ever since been critical of Gobert, but there’s someone who came in the latter’s defense.

Draymond Green Accused of Hypocritical Take On Rudy Gobert

After Draymond Green’s remark on Rudy Gobert got circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter), he got called out by the NBA Today’s Justin Termine for his hypocrisy.

The radio host retweeted the post by writing, “What a hysterical hypocrite. So Rudy Gobert is expected to guard Jokic bc he’s the DPOY, but Iguodala is chasing around Lebron in the Finals instead of Draymond?”

He reminded Green of when the Warriors faced the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals; Andre Iguodala stepped up against LeBron instead of the 2017 DPOY winner Green.

Gobert has been called out multiple times during the series over his defensive performance against Jokic, but he still has an opportunity to answer the critics by standing strong against the Nuggets on Sunday in their final game of the second-round series.
