Throughout March this year, Zach Edey has distinguished himself as a quality player. He proved himself in men’s collegiate basketball by showcasing his dominance on both sides of the court.
Edey has led his team to the Final Four after a disappointing upset in the first round of the previous year. There is a lot of questions over Egey’s future in professional basketball as conversations about it revolve around him.
Regarding Edey’s NBA potential, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas has voiced his concerns about his capacity to play effective defense in the league. Although Edey’s chances of being selected in the lottery look slim, anything may happen given how unpredictable this year’s draft class is.
However, Gilbert Arenas recently criticized Zach Edey during an interview on the recent episode of the Gilbert Arenas show.
“Listen I don’t want to mess a kids hopes up right because you know he’s playing a hell of a basketball, but you know I’m pretty sure whoever drafts him in the lottery is probably going to get fired within a few years after that draft pick, How he plays the game is not how the game is being played today, so that same player you can find in the second round. So I’m pretty sure he will slip because how is he going to play defense in the NBA now. How’s he gonna play defense in the NBA?” Arenas said this during the recent podcast of the Gilbert Arenas Show.
Gilbert Arenas’ words about Zach Edey will spark a debate among the analysts
Edey’s recent play, which included a career-high 40-point outburst against Tennessee, has only increased the excitement surrounding his draft stock. Edey has demonstrated that he is a constant threat, with tournament averages of an amazing 30 points and 16.2 rebounds per game.
His relevance for an NBA game is still up for debate, though, especially given his lack of experience defending players and spacing the floor. Edey’s size and reach are unquestionable advantages, but his playing style could not translate well to the professional level because of the faster-paced and more adaptable nature of the game there.
