Is Victor Wembanyama the NBA’s best rookie? Former Grizzlies Player Makes Controversial Victor Wembanyama Comments

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama has looked deserving of all the hype so far in preseason. Showing the world why he was so highly touted as a prospect, Wembanyama has been very impressive so far in his first NBA preseason games. While Wembanyama is the favorite most places to win Rookie of the Year, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas shared a controversial take about who he believes the best rookie in the league is.

During a recent episode of Gil’s Arena, Arenas said, “I think Chet [Holmgren] will win [Rookie of the Year], because he’s on a better team and he knows how to do everything. Chet is gonna have numbers that Wemby is just not thinking of right now. Like rebounding. Chet is literally trying to rebound. Wemby, the ball goes up, he’s out. He thinks he’s 5’10”, he’s cherry picking. He’s literally cherry picking… Chet is gonna damn near average a double double.”

Arenas, who made two NBA All-Star teams before finishing his career with the Memphis Grizzlies, has shared a lot of controversial takes on his show, and this one definitely fits in that category. That said, Arenas was not hating on Wembanyama as much as this quote may suggest, because he did spend a lot of this segment talking about how both Holmgren and Wembanyama will be special – he just feels the Thunder big man will be further along as a rookie.
