Naz Reid might have taken the crown of 2024 Sixth Man Of the Year, but there wouldn’t be much surprise if Malik Monk won it instead. No one would’ve been mad about it, given the awesome teammate Monk is; at least his former teammate, Trevor Ariza, would’ve agreed.
Monk and Ariza played together for the Lakers from 2021 to 2022. While the current Kings guard’s stay in Los Angeles was short-lived, he had something to look back at fondly, more precisely, a $35k watch. In a recent video of Playmaker, Monk is seen exhibiting his precious watch collection, stacked with timepieces from Audemars Piguet, Rolex, and many more. One of the watches was gifted to him by Trevor Ariza during their time in LA, which Monk claims to be one of his favorites.
Malik Monk might have missed the Sixth Man of The Year award, but the watch proves his worth to his teammates, who can, without hesitance, shell out $35k for the guard.
How Was Malik Monk’s Lakers Stint?
Monk signed with the Lakers in the summer of 2021 from the Hornets. After the LAL disbanded their championship-winning team, Monk was seen as a valuable role player in the supporting cast of LeBron James.
However, his move did not achieve the anticipated success, as the Lakers failed to qualify for the playoffs after finishing 11th in the West. Monk showed glimpses of his quality and scored 41 points against the Nuggets in April 2022. He averaged 13.8 points per game from an average of 28.1 minutes in the 76 regular season games. His 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists were also handy stats for a sixth man.
This was the only season he spent in Los Angeles, as he moved to the Sacramento Kings the following year and has been playing there since. Monk flourished this season with 15.4 points in the regular season along with a career-high 5.1 assists before folding to the Pelicans in the play-in tournament. With his future seemingly up in the air, it will be interesting to see where Malik Monk lands next.
