Victor Wembanyama continued his all-time rookie season in the month of March, leading the field in nearly every stat.
There’s just a handful of games remaining in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, and the league’s freshest class is putting the finishing touches on its first season.
Victor Wembanyama has had one of more impressive rookie seasons we’ve ever seen, and it’s only a matter of time before the Rookie of the Year Award is in his hands.
Here were the rookie stats leaders for the month of March:
Points: Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
Unsurprisingly, Wembanyama led all rookies rookies in total points with 278, or 23.2 per game. He again improved on his efficiency, shooting 47% overall, 31% from the line and 75% from the line.
Following the Frenchman was Hornets’ forward Brandon Miller, then Memphis’ forward GG Jackson, who had a white-hot month frequenting the Grizzlies’ starting lineup.
Assists: Vasilije Micic, Hornets
Thirty-year-old rookie Vasilije Micic, fresh off the heels of his trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder, led all rookies with 96 total assists in March. Impressively, he registered just 41 turnovers.
Jazz’ guard Keyonte George and Portland’s top pick Scoot Henderson were the next closest at 66 apiece, with the two totaling 51 and 48 turnovers, respectively.
Rebounds: Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
Wembanyama came down with 140 total rebounds in the month of March, good for 11.7 per game. Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren was hot on his heels with 126, followed by Rockets’ guard Amen Thompson with 123.
The only other rookie to boast more than 100 was Warriors’ forward Trayce Jackson-Davis with 108.
Stocks (steal + blocks): Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
If the above stats didn’t cement Wembanyama’s already-likely Rookie of the Year case, him maintaining his status as one of the league’s best defenders certainly will. In March, he led all rookie in total stocks with 60 — 46 blocks and 14 steals.
Jackson-Davis trailed with 26 blocks and 12 steals, great numbers by most standards. And Thompson grabbed a rookie-high 21 steals, followed by Kris Murray, Micic and Henderson with 16.
