NBA Update: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Matches Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder Record, Zion Williamson Shines in Recent Game

It was a memorable night in the NBA for two players. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander equalled Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder point record in their narrow victory over the Miami Heat, while Zion Williamson hit a double-double for the first time since December in a dominant display against the Philadelphia 76ers. Elsewhere, the Cleveland Cavaliers crucially beat the Minnesota Timberwolves.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – MARCH 8: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander #2 of the Oklahoma City Thunder handles the ball during the game as Terry Rozier #2 of the Miami Heat plays defense on March 8, 2024 at Paycom Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander equalled Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder point record in their narrow victory over the Miami Heat.

The All-Star scored 37 points in the game as he tied Durant’s record of 47 games with 30 or more points in a single season.

Gilgeous-Alexander credited his consistency for hitting the top levels throughout the season.

“My whole life is consistent,” he said after the game. “Everything I do. From what I eat, to when I sleep, to my recovery, to my loved ones. Everything is consistent and it’s a routine for me at this point.”

On the win, he added: “We had to be the tougher team. Late in the first quarter, the second quarter and a little bit inside the fourth they were the tougher team.

“But when we turned that dial, we were able to play to our identity. Once we did that we were good.”

In the New Orleans Pelicans 103-95 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Zion Williamson hit a double-double for the first time since December.

The power forward produced 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals in a 35-minute showing at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The 23-year-old’s first double-double this year meant his 12 boards were a season-high effort, while he also enjoyed a campaign-best three blocks in a dominant performance.

It was a much-needed boost for Williamson, who came into the game averaging just 12 points in his previous two games.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Lakers pipped the Milwaukee Bucks 123-122 in a tense encounter and the Cleveland Cavaliers were too strong for the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning 113-104.

The Atlanta Hawks beat the Memphis Grizzlies 99-92, as the New York Knicks secured a 98-74 victory over the Orlando Magic.

The Washington Wizards overcame the Charlotte Hornets, while the Portland Trailblazers were beaten by the Houston Rockets in a 123-107 defeat.
