Zach Wilson is unlikely to be in a New York Jets uniform in 2024.

The team is keen on trading the quarterback while he’s also thought to want out. According to a source cited by ProFootballTalk, several offers have come the Jets’ way, so they could trade him right now if they want to, except they simply don’t like the proposals they’ve seen so far.

NBC Sports also reported that owner Woody Johnson is the one standing in the way of a trade as he is intent on waiting for something better.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke to reporters during a press conference on Monday but refused to comment on the situation, saying instead he would defer to general manager Joe Douglas.

That Johnson is the one keeping Zach Wilson in New York is surprising given that he made him seem like a nobody just last month.

We need a backup quarterback,” the team owner was quoted as saying. “We didn’t have one last year.

The Jets Aren’t Quite Ready To Let Go Of Zach Wilson

The details of the offers received so far haven’t been revealed. But the conditional sixth-round pick the Chicago Bears received from the Pittsburgh Steelers has likely impacted Wilson’s value.

That the quarterback has a fully guaranteed compensation package of over $5.5 million for 2024 is to be taken into consideration.

Aaron Rodgers is no spring chicken at this point of his career, so the Jets will be drafting a QB in the early going at some point. And their treatment of Wilson might make them a team players try to avoid.

For now, though, the Jets will be focused on trying to win with their veteran QB, who was unable to play in 2023 as he suffered a season-ending injury shortly into his debut. That they would have to rely on Wilson was unforeseen, but it appears they’re still not quite ready to move on.
