A wooden statue of NHL broadcaster Don Cherry

Don Cherry has always been a controversial figure within the hockey world and today, the small town of Mortlach Saskatchewan showed their love for him by unveiling a statue of the old Hockey Night in Canada host.

The Statue depicts Cherry in a bright red plaid jacket. He has always been known for his bold fashion choices on television, so the bright jacket matches his energy perfectly. The 15-foot tall Cherry has his arms wide open, giving his trademark finger gun with his left hand. His dog accompanies him sitting next to his left leg.

Response to the statue unveiling has unsurprisingly been mixed. Cherry has become wrapped up in the culture war, as he has never shied away from expressing his political beliefs in public. This has made Cherry quite divisive among Canadiens. One responder posted a meme from the Simpsons of two characters sawing off the head of a statue on the show, indicating that they would do the same to the new statue of Cherry.

Me when I find this

Others applauded the statue, noting that Cherry is an icon of hockey and a Canadian legend. Those who agree with Cherry’s view of the world will likely see the statue as a welcome honor to the former Hockey Night in Canada host.

I absolutely love this and I hope all the lefty weirdos in Canada cry themselves to sleep tonight. Haha! Long live Don Cherry. A Canadian legend and icon. This is perfect. 🍇 🍒 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒
