The second semifinal series game between the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder captured some bittersweet moments that grabbed the attention of the NBA community on social media.
At the beginning of Game 2, when veteran referee Scott Foster was seen on the court even after the whistle was blown, the fans got furious and harshly criticized the act on X (formerly referred to as Twitter). However, some of them melted when they saw Mavs guard Kyrie Irving gifting his shoes to a fan after securing a 119-110 win on Thursday.
Right after the game ended, Irving was spotted giving his shoes to a young fan while uttering something and gently rubbing her head. The kind gesture of the 8-time All-Star was lauded by the fans when the clip reached the hoops lovers in every corner. Here’s what the fans said after the NBA page posted the video on their official X handle:
Apart from Irving’s act of generosity, the fans were impressed by the remarkable performance of the Mavericks in front of the tough crowd at the Paycom Center.
Kyrie Irving and Mavs Back to Winning Ways
After a disappointing loss in Game 1, the Mavericks squad knew they had to establish dominance in the following game to not give away the upper hand to OKC in the series.
They followed their game plan and looked confident of putting up more points than their opponents in the first three quarters. They had a 6-point lead in the opening half, which increased to 9 by the end of the night.
Luka Doncic and P.J. Washington stepped up for the Mavs to contribute 29 points each coupled with 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 11 rebounds, 4 assists, while Kyrie Irving chipped in 9 points, 3 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists.
Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander adding massive numbers of 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists to the Thunder’s scoreboard along with Jalen Williams’ 20 points, the team couldn’t snatch the win. Now that the scores are leveled 1-1, both teams will try to take the lead in the following game on Saturday at the American Airlines Center.
