SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs picked up a home overtime win in Austin, Texas, versus the Brooklyn Nets, 122-115.
Victor Wembanyama scored 33 points and 15 rebounds, and Zach Collins added six. Devin Vassell scored 25 points in the win, and Keldon Johnson scored 24. Jeremy Sochan chipped in with nine rebounds, and Tre Jones had 11 points and seven assists.
The Spurs are 15-53 on the season and will next host the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night in San Antonio.
Here’s a sample of what the teams said after the game.
SPURS
Coach Gregg Popovich:
“They (Spurs) executed a lot of stuff. We gave them (Nets) a lot of things tonight. Their focus was really great and tried out some things we’d never done before I did a good job. A couple of things went awry. That’s what happens in a game. But overall for a young group, I thought that they focused really well on execution and I thought their defense was really, really good against a lot of talented guys.”
Wembanyama:
“It’s a day-by-day thing, but what’s for sure is I’m not even close to being at my best. I don’t see my progression stopping anytime soon. So it’s good for confidence, and it’s a lot to correct. A lot to adjust.”
Johnson:
“The next step for us is closing out games, and we did that tonight. Hopefully, we can build on that to finish out the season strong.”
