Can Ginobili still compete at the NBA level? Exhibit A was just revealed.
The San Antonio Spurs haven’t won a championship since 2014 and have quickly become an afterthought in the Western Conference race each year. Coach Gregg Popovich has unsuccessfully attempted to lead his young Spurs teams to the promised land in recent seasons only to watch them fall flat on their faces.
Recently, Spurs legend Manu Ginobili sparked talk of a comeback with a video posted to social media. The video came during a period in which fellow Spurs legend Tim Duncan shed light on why he is one of the most underappreciated superstars in the history of the league. Current Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama was given his flowers as the ‘best player in the league’ by NBA legend and top 75 player of all-time Damian Lillard.
Ginobili’s video was viewed nearly 500,000 times as of Saturday night as fans got into a nostalgic mood over the Argentinian legend’s time in the gym.
Ginobili video makes waves
Ginobili shot a set of 100 shots for the first time in roughly 100 years but said his shoulder didn’t feel 100% afterward.
“Better % than expected,” Ginobili wrote in the caption of his video, posted on Twitter.

“He’s making a comeback?” one fan asked.
“Wemby has found his point guard now,” another fan added with a clapping hands emoji.
Ginobili announced his retirement from the NBA in August 2018. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in September 2022.
Spurs preparing for 2024 NFL Draft
With Ginobili 46 years old and the Spurs’ championship glory days firmly in the rear view mirror, the time is now for Coach Popovich and the Spurs to focus on the 2024 NFL Draft. Victor Wembanyama’s Rookie of the Year season has given the franchise momentum despite its losing ways heading into June 26 and 27’s 2024 NBA Draft at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New Jersey.
The Spurs hold the fourth and eighth picks in the draft with hopes of building a team around Wembanyama that could compete for a Western Conference title some time in the coming seasons. The Spurs are no strangers to hitting it big in the draft and turning things around in a matter of a few years. San Antonio took Duncan number one overall in 1997 and won the title two seasons later.
