Spurs Rumors: Trade Pitch Lands Victor Wembanyama Co-Star
San Antonio Spurs rumors are going to start heating up now that the team knows where they will be picking in the 2024 NBA Draft. The ping pong balls were in their favor, as they own two selections inside the top 10; Nos. 4 and 8. Lady Luck was on their side after landing the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and selecting Victor Wembanyama.

There are two routes the team can go. They can use the selections, adding to the collection of high-upside young players they already have. Or, they can shop those selections and look to speed up the rebuild around Victor Wembanyama.

Spurs rumors will run rampant with trade ideas, as the team is in a magnificent position. No matter what they decide to do, they are on a great path with a franchise cornerstone already in place.

Over at Bleacher Report, Andy Bailey has pitched an idea with the latter route; making a trade. He has suggested a three-team trade that includes the Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder. In the proposed deal, the Spurs would actually hold onto their lottery picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, but there are plenty of moving parts.

San Antonio would receive All-Star point guard Trae Young and Josh Giddey. The Hawks would get Keldon Johnson, Kenrich Williams, their own 2026 first-round pick, a pick swap in 2027 with the Spurs and a 2029 first-round pick. Oklahoma City would receive Zach Collins, Garrison Matthews and a 2030 first-round pick.

The Spurs add a ton of playmaking around Victor Wembanyama to make his life easier. Every move they make from here on out they have to keep one thing in mind; how do the pieces fit around the 2023-24 Rookie of the Year?

Atlanta gets to reset after the failed experiment of pairing Young with Dejounte Murray. They get back some of the draft capital they sent out for Murray, which is a huge win given the current state of the franchise.

The Thunder have announced their presence as a contender in the Western Conference and it is time to start filling specific needs. Giddey is no longer a fit with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander emerging as an MVP candidate and the team needs some size on the interior. They add another first-round pick to their comically large stash already to have the means to further upgrade their roster down the road should the need arise.
