The Golden State Warriors continued their push for a playoff spot on Saturday night with a 128-121 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena.
Golden State improved to 35-31 on the season with the victory, moving into ninth place in the Western Conference.
It was an important victory for the Warriors, though they benefitted greatly from the fact that Lakers star Anthony Davis played just 12 minutes before being ruled out with an eye contusion that The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania reported to be a corneal abrasion.
Despite the loss, LeBron James put together one of his highest-scoring performances of the season, finishing with 40 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, one steal and one block. It was a remarkable performance for the four-time champion, who is the oldest player in the NBA.
Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Jonathan Kuminga were all impressive for the Warriors in the win.
Curry finished with 31 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Thompson notched 26 points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench.
Kuminga tallied 23 points, two rebounds and four assists.
After the game, NBA fans lauded the duo of Curry and Thompson for cooking up a “vintage Splash Brothers” performance:
If the Warriors are going to make a run for a playoff spot, they’re going to need Curry, Thompson and Green to continue putting together dominant performances to close out the regular season.
The Dubs will return home to face the New York Knicks on Monday before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers ahead of a five-game road trip.
