‘They Don’t Give In!’ Spurs’ Gregg Popovich Happy After Win vs. Warriors

The San Antonio Spurs have had a lot of lows throughout their 50-loss season, but one of the highs came on Saturday night in a 126-113 win against the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center.

Playing without Victor Wembanyama and Devin Vassell, the Spurs had every reason to lose on Saturday, but they came out of the gates hot. San Antonio built a small lead early on, but a 30-16 second quarter gave the Spurs a 19-point lead going into halftime.

While the Warriors did their best to make a dent into that deficit, it was too big of a hole for them to climb out of.

“They’re a heck of a good group,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “They don’t give in. We make our share of mistakes, that’s for sure as a young team. But they’re learning, they’re getting more consistent in a lot of different areas. Just happy for them.”

With 18 games left on the schedule and the Spurs mathematically eliminated from postseason contention, there aren’t too many opportunities for the team to build upon the progress they have made this season. However, Saturday night’s game proved that San Antonio won’t mail it in down the stretch. The team will play each game hoping to win, adding some optimism moving forward into the rebuild.

The Spurs and Warriors are back in action tomorrow night at the Frost Bank Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
