Spurs add Victor Wembanyama to injury report
The star rookie is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s night game at Houston, where the Spurs will try to win their season-best third game in a row.
HOUSTON – The Spurs made star rookie Victor Wembanyama a late addition to their injury report Monday night.
The club listed him as questionable for Tuesday night’s game against the Rockets with left shoulder soreness.
Wembanyama leaned against scorer’s table grimacing for several seconds but stayed in the game. After hitting one of two free throws to give the Spurs a 109-102 lead, he continued to play until he checked out for good with 51.2 seconds left and the home team holding a 12-point lead.
Wembanyama finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six blocks in 31 minutes.
Wembanyama hasn’t missed a game since Jan. 19 when he sat out against Charlotte in the first game of a back-to-back. It was only the sixth time the Spurs played without the No. 1 overall pick and it occurred at a point in the season when the medical staff prohibited him from playing in both games of a back-to-back to protect the right ankle he sprained when he stepped on ball boy’s foot warming up in Dallas on Dec. 23.
The Spurs improved to 13-48 with the win over the Pacers. If they beat Houston, they will have their first three-game winning streak of the season.
