Kirk Cousins has broken his silence on what was the most shocking draft pick in 2024.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Cousins to a lucrative, long-term deal this offseason. Strangely, they also picked Michael Penix Jr. early in the first round of the draft last month.

Cousins’ agent had previously revealed the player’s disappointment, but the quarterback has since spoken on the matter directly.

The veteran QB was a guest on the ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ podcast this week. During his appearance, he shared his feelings on the pick, noting it was a reminder that there are things you just can’t control in life.

“I think you’re reminded again, that there are things you control, and there’s a lot of things you don’t control,” he said in quotes transcribed by On3.

“And so let’s deal in reality, you know, and recognize that fact and then be a steward, not an owner. So I just believe that I got to steward what comes my way and control what I can control, which is what a steward does but a steward doesn’t worry about that which they can’t control. An owner does.”

Kirk Cousins Is Going To Be A Good Sport

Kirk Cousins appears to have accepted the Falcons’ decision and doesn’t want to complicate things further.

“We’re trying to win the Super Bowl and it’s hard enough,” he remarked. “So let’s all be on the same page and let’s go try to win the Super Bowl.”

Cousins will be the starter for the Falcons in 2024, but he will have to really ball out to keep the job for the length of his four-year deal with the team.

He will also serve as a mentor to Penix, who the Falcons hope can take over as their franchise QB in the future.
