Juan Soto continues to terrorize baseballs.
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto continued his torrid pace on Sunday afternoon, smashing a pair of home runs in the Yankees’ 7-5 comeback win over the San Francisco Giants. It was the 20th multi-homer game of Soto’s young MLB career, placing him in some pretty elite company.

Soto now has 17 long balls on the season and is slashing .322/.417/.614. He leads the American League in batting average and has also driven in 53 runs.
The Yankees acquired Soto in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres back in December. The 25-year-old has lived up to expectations and then some since landing in New York.
Of course, Soto’s contract expires after the season, which has many wondering if the Yankees will be able to re-sign him. He is expected to command a deal north of $500 million, which could present a complicated situation for the Bronx Bombers given the fact that they have already handed contracts in excess of $300 million to Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole.
Based on how well Soto has performed thus far in the Big Apple, the Yanks would be crazy to let him walk.
Juan Soto and the Yankees are the best in baseball
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
The Yankees improved to 42-19 after their three-game sweep of the Giants, giving them the best record in all of baseball.
New York just went 7-2 on its west coast road trip and will now head home to host the Minnesota Twins for a three-game set starting Tuesday.
But can take a minute to appreciate just how dominant the Yankees have been thus far this season?
Offensively, New York is tied for fourth in the majors in batting average and ranks No. 1 in OPS and home runs. It also ranks third in runs scored. On top of that, the Bombers are tops in the bigs in ERA and third in WHIP. And that’s with Cole—the 2023 AL Cy Young award winner—having not thrown a pitch yet.
Cole is making his way back from a nerve injury he sustained in his elbow in spring training and should be returning sometime soon. The Yankees haven’t skipped a beat in his absence, so imagine how much more dangerous they are going to look once Cole is back on the mound?
With Soto, Judge and Giancarlo Stanton in the middle of the order, the Yanks boast one of the most terrifying lineups baseball has seen in quite some time. The trio has combined for 52 home runs, which is more than six whole teams this season. Plus, role players such as Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo have been solid, and the Yankees just got DJ LeMahieu back from injury.
All of that being said, New York is still in a tight AL East race.
In spite of how well the Yankees have been playing, the Baltimore Orioles have kept pace and sit just three games behind the Yanks—one in the loss column—for first place in the division.
We’ll see if Soto and Co. can keep the Orioles at bay as the season progresses.
