The Baltimore Ravens are giving a former New England Patriots quarterback the opportunity to shine…at a completely different position.

Former Louisville star quarterback Malik Cunningham signed with the Patriots after going undrafted last year. Late last season, the Baltimore Ravens signed Lamar Jackson’s old college teammate to their practice squad.

But rather than compete for a second or third-string quarterback job, Cunningham will do what many scouts and analysts thought Jackson would try after turning pro: Make the switch to wide receiver.

According to Ryan Mink of the Ravens’ official team website, Baltimore now lists Malik Cunningham as a wide receiver on their roster. Mink even noted that Cunningham made several catches during yesterday’s OTAs session.

Former Patriots superstar wide receiver Julian Edelman played QB before turning pro in 2009. Bill Belichick used him at several positions before helping Edelman emerge as a superstar slot receiver.

Former Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor switched to wide receiver with the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2015 season. He even tallied 1,007 receiving yards during the 2016 campaign.

So if Cunningham ends up locking down a spot on the Baltimore roster, he won’t have been the first former QB to transition to wide receiver successfully. Let’s see if John Harbaugh and company can make it work.

Malik Cunningham & The Baltimore Ravens Open 2024 Against Familiar Foe

The Baltimore Ravens will open the 2024 season against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship Game, in which KC emerged victorious 17-10.

That contest will be played at Arrowhead Stadium in the NFL Kickoff Game on Sept. 5. It’ll mark Baltimore’s first Kickoff Game appearance since 2013, when they met the Denver Broncos after winning Super Bowl 47.

Jackson is 1-4 in his career against Mahomes, with the only victory coming in Week 2 of the 2021 season.
